Dead reckoning
Over 40 years after the release of his seminal Night of the Living Dead, George A Romero’s zombie franchise lumbers on. And while his latest offering may lack the social and political commentary that defined his earlier movies, this tale of the inhabitants of an isolated island and their fight against the living dead packs in plenty of Romero’s trademark dry humour and outlandish effects. Gorehounds in particular will delights in the many sticky closeups.
At 70 years old, Romero remains the grand master of the zombie movie and Survival of the Dead proves he is still more than worthy of the title. 3 stars
